Being an entrepreneur is tough. I mean you had an idea and ran with it, creating your own business from scratch. You deserve a round of applause and a million hugs. Entrepreneur life can be really dull sometimes and easily put you in a funk which creates horrible habits that can harm your business. I put together 12 essential habits that a successful entrepreneur demonstrates in their day to day life because improvement is always a great idea.

1 | DON’T WASTE TIME ON UNIMPORTANT TO-DO’S
I mean hello you’re incredibly talented and have a million things on your plate (talented people tend to have to do more I guess) so why distract yourself with endless to-do’s that are not important? You’re business should be a higher priority than getting distracted by a simple message that trailed off into a pointless topic. I brought this point up because I get distracted by conversations so easily. Basically, you’re awesome so do awesome things with your time.
2 | USE SOCIAL MEDIA AS A MARKETING TOOL, NOT A DISTRACTION
Yeah Facebook is cool, along with Instagram and twitter and periscope and YouTube. Although they are cool they are also time suckers and can easily waste your time when you should be focused on your business.
3 | ALWAYS LOOK FOR MORE EFFICIENT WAYS
Time yourself and analyze how you could have done that task quicker. Saving time saves money. I’m kind of a nerd about this stuff and think it is fun, which may be weird but I am still admitting it anyways.
4 | STAY INSPIRED
Keep your inspiration close every day. Don’t forget why you are running this business in the first place! It can be quite easy to get down in the dumps about your biz but, hey, you’re awesome and you’re business is awesome! Maybe stick an inspirational note on your bathroom mirror or save an inspirational image as your desktop background. I have had to do a crazy amount of inspiration just to keep myself motivated. When I rebranded from a fashion blogger to the blogger I am now, I lost tons of traffic. It was a huge hit. I was getting a crazy amount of traffic and then, boom, nothing. Crickets. Once I started marketing a bit however everything picked up, but it is discouraging! So pick yourself up off the ground and smile because if you are anything like me, smiling makes me happy even when I’m not.
5 | SET TIMELINES AND MEET THEM
Yeah, not only do you have to set a timeline.. you have to meet it. Personally, I see it as a challenge. This kind of goes hand in hand with being efficient in my opinion but a timeline is a more broad task.
6 | PLAN, AND THEN PLAN SOME MORE
I plan months in advance. I have a social media star series coming up in around two months and I’m gathering guests posts NOW. Like I’m so crazy excited about it, which makes it easier to plan way ahead, but it is always good to be prepared! When you are ahead of schedule it is easier to take breaks as well which can be nice when you feel overwhelmed from running your own business!
7 | AN EARLY START TO THE DAY
With an early morning comes productivity, efficiency, and overall more time to start the day with activities you enjoy.
8 | KEEP YOUR INBOX SOMEWHAT CLEAN
Don’t let your inbox overflow with unanswered messages or a surplus of spam. I can actually say I am fairly good at this, but I also do not have a crazy amount of emails per day. I do get a fair amount though especially since I work as a freelance web designer/blog designer so I feel like I deserve a pat on the back sometimes for keeping my inbox all neat and stuff.
9 | CLEAN YOUR WORK SPACE
Okay my husband is such a clean, OCD-type person that he cleans up our office spaces every week. It’s actually pretty nice. We have this room that we call our “media room” and both of our offices are in this room (it’s hard sharing an office space but hey I’ll live). If this room starts getting dirty at all he goes on a cleaning frenzy which makes me a very, very happy wife! Just another reason I love him.
10 | AUTOMATING TASKS
For example, social media scheduling. Automate tasks so that your business runs without you having to post everything one at a time. Direct your messages where you need to go, schedule them, and go about your business doing what you love. It makes your life a million times easier, so why not?
11 | LEARN TO SAY “NO”
Saying no can be tough. I am the worst at this. Saying no kind of gives me anxiety but it is something I need to learn how to get better at.
12 | DELEGATE
Be a leader and delegate tasks efficiently and kindly. If you have no one working under you then make sure to spread out your tasks at a reasonable pace so that you do not get behind. I am a solopreuner so I, of course, get to do all the tasks that involve running a business single handedly. Sometimes I feel like my job never ends, mainly because it doesn’t, but I’m slowly trying to set office hours and delegate break times for myself.
