Pinterest is a land mine full of crazy awesome people that want to read your articles and possibly buy your products.
I read in a recent article that 70% of people on Pinterest are ACTIVELY looking for things to buy. For all you online shops this is music to your ears I’m sure. But another great thing about Pinterest for bloggers is you can attach images to your articles and get people to repin your content! Pinterest is helpful in a lot of ways and if used strategically, can help bring in a ton of traffic and sales. I found this one simple strategy to be very helpful when working on my Pinterest account. Deleting pins. This may sound counter intuitive but, with research, I promise that that is not the case. Deleting low performing pins can increase your chances of getting your pins seen by more people!

I didn’t think it would work but wowza was I wrong. My followers are increasing rapidly! Before I started deleting pins I was around 400-500 followers and now, within a very little time frame, I’m at 960. Almost 1,000 followers! A big reason I believe is because when I started deleting pins that weren’t seen as “high quality” by Pinterest, I started increasing my popularity with the platform. The higher number of pins that I have that have a high engagement rate and number of repins, the better. So if I increase that number by simply getting rid of the pins that didn’t perform too well (5 repins and lower) then Pinterest will see me as a “high end” user and promote my content more.
The Pinterest smart feed can be a tad frustrating. But lets make it work to your advantage! One of the ways you can make the smart feed work to your advantage is by deleting these pins. It doesn’t take long and I provided some super neat tips below because I think nifty things are worth mentioning.
1 | BLOCK OFF SOME TIME FOR EACH BOARD
Set up some time within your daily schedule for each board (you can space out the boards if it makes you feel better) and get to deleting! By blocking off some time for each board it is less overwhelming and you can put it on a to-do list so you get that satisfaction of “checking off” this task!
2 | USE THE MOVE TOOL TO DELETE
Using the move button to delete pins is a bulk delete tool that saves you tons of time. The button looks like what I highlighted below! Just go to the board you are wanting to delete pins out of and you will see this option.
3 | YOU CAN DELETE UP TO 50 AT A TIME
When you use the move tool to bulk delete, you can only delete up to 50 at a time. I thought this was worth mentioning because some people get confused when they reach the 50 pin mark. Just hit the delete button and then start over after you reached the limit!
4 | MAKES YOU THINK A BIT BEFORE PINNING
Deleting all these pins definitely makes you think before pinning anything else. Is the pin of good quality? Does it fit within your target audiences interests? You may start asking yourself a few questions before pinning that way you make sure your profile isn’t filled with a large quantity of pins that have very little engagement.
HOW TO DELETE LOW PERFORMING PINS:
It doesn’t have to be hard and there are two different, convenient ways to delete pins! You can choose whether or not you want to delete pins in bulk (up to 50) or choose to delete one distinct pin at a time. It’s up to you and I’ll show you where you can find both options!
OPTION ONE | BULK DELETE
You have the option to move pins and select up to 50 then delete. I recommend not going too crazy with this at first because I would hate for Pinterest to flag you but after a few days of deleting 100-150 then go crazy!
OPTION TWO | DELETE INDIVIDUALLY
The second option is to simply delete one pin at a time. This is not the most efficient option but if you only have a few, it won’t hurt! Just click “edit pin” and then this popup will appear. Delete the pin and you are good to go! The pin will disappear and you can continue on with your happy, Pinterest popular self.
