Pinterest can be tough. It is hard to get a large amount of followers within a few days and getting your pins found or images pinned from your blog can get discouraging. If your in that boat I used to be right there with ya. But Pinterest doesn’t have to be difficult! It can be automated (my new favorite word now that I am working full-time while running Mara Burkes as well) AND beneficial! Also, free pin it buttons anyone?
Pin the image below to your favorite board + follow me on Pinterest by clicking here!
So yeah I decided to throw in 6 free pin it buttons because we are talking about profitable Pinterest tips and the pins that give you traffic are from your site. Just scroll to the bottom so you can grab those free pin it buttons, it’s the box that says “download free pin it buttons.”
1 | WINNERS HAVE BUSINESS ACCOUNTS
It all starts with having a Pinterest business account. Make sure that you have a BUSINESS account not a personal account because you’ll get access to all sorts of goodies such as analytics, promoted pins, and rich pins. So yeah, it’s the place to be.
2 | MAKE SURE YOUR RICH PINS ARE ENABLED
Rich pins are crazy awesome for many reasons, but you can check out 6 key benefits of rich pins here! Setting up rich pins for your Pinterest account is very easy also and it only takes five minutes (definitely worth the time!). Don’t be intimidated, just follow these two easy steps to setting up rich pins that way you’ll be verified in no time!
3 | DELETE PINS THAT ARE NO GOOD
They are messing up your vibe, man. Let them go! Just click the “move pins” option when editing your board and you can delete 50 at a time! Yes it may be an investment on time but trust me, it is definitely worth it. If a pin has had less than 3 repins then it is time for it to go. I try to weed mine out every month but I know some do this every week!
4 | GROUP BOARDS ROCK
Group boards are the bomb. I’m going to have a whole post devoted to the greatness of group boards later on because they are so fantastic. But get involved in a group board and don’t be shy about it!
5 | EMBED PINTEREST BOARD WITHIN BLOG POSTS
For example, I’m going to embed my blog tips board down below because who doesn’t love some solid blog tips in their feed?
Now you need to go follow this board or simply go to my Pinterest page and follow all my boards at once. But seriously, embedding your Pinterest board within blog posts that deal with a similar topic is a great thing to do so if you aren’t doing that already, you may want to consider it!
6 | SCHEDULE YOUR PINS, LIFE IS BETTER
Life really is better after finding a pin scheduler that suits your needs. I use Ahaology, personally, and absolutely love it. There is also tailwind, board booster, and a couple of others as well. But scheduling your pins saves a TON of time so maybe now is the right time to get started with this?
7 | MAKE SURE YOUR BLOG IMAGES ARE PINNABLE
And this is easily attainable with a plugin and the 6 pin it buttons that I provide for you for freeeeee. If you are in need of pretty pin it buttons for your blog then just scroll to the bottom of this post to download six of them. No credit or anything needed, they are all yours free of charge and no strings attached. I’ll send them straight to your inbox so you can save the email forever in case you lose them in the future!
8 | MAKE SURE YOUR SITE LINKS BACK TO YOUR PINTEREST PROFILE
Just a simple Pinterest icon mingled in with all your other social media icons covers this step. It’s not too hard but definitely important. Pinterest is a cool platform so don’t let it miss out on all the action by leaving it out of your icon area!
9 | HAVE A STRONG PINTEREST PROFILE
No one wants to follow someone with a blank profile. You are an interesting person so make sure people know it! Spruce up your wording and get that profile pic branded to perfection. Make sure people are excited when they end up on your page because they definitely should be! You have pinned tons of awesome stuff just for them and you need to convince them to follow you without saying one word.
10 | ONLY PIN QUALITY IMAGES + CONTENT
Not spam. Quality content. If you want your Pinterest to be top notch then you need to be a high profile pinner that has standards. Don’t pin crap because crap isn’t appealing.
11 | PIN CONSISTENTLY
Consitency not quantity is key. Most Pinterest users do not understand this concept so they pin like crazy for one day then drop off the map for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, Pinterest does not work like that and your pins will not get seen as often (because the new smart feed system is a tad picky!) so finding a pin scheduler is important.
12 | VERTICAL IMAGES ARE BOMB
But seriously, don’t create a horizontal image for your Pinterest account because this will not be seen in everyone’s feed. You want to stand out among the crowd. Standing out is easier when using vertical images! Also, create a call to action on the pinned image that definitely helps as well.
13 | PIN WITHIN YOUR NICHE
Be niche conscious. Create a consistent theme, since you are a business or blog and specialize in one area. If you pin within your niche then you will attract the right people. If you are sporadic with the content you are pinning then you will not be attracting the people that will continually repin your content and become loyal followers.
14 | COMMENT ON PINS
Since this is so unusual, comments go a long way! Leave a comment on a popular pin that way it links back to your profile and more people will see that comment. It’s an unusual tactic that not many use so I would definitely suggest going for it.
15 | TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PIN DESCRIPTIONS
You have a large amount of words that you can use in your pin description, why not spend a few extra minutes taking advantage of this? Having a lengthy pin description not only helps your pin get pinned more but it increases the SEO of that pin within Pinterest.
16 | REARRANGE YOUR BOARDS
Rearrange your boards to where the most popular are first. This gives people a great first impression and immediately lets them know what your Pinterest account is all about. Those boards are your most popular for a reason so why not display them?!
17 | CREATE CONSISTENT COVERS FOR YOUR PINTEREST BOARDS
This is super simple but makes a big impact on the overall aesthetic of your Pinterest account. Make sure that your board covers aren’t tacky. Some people have well-designed and branded board covers that go perfect and attract the target consumer. As for others, not so much. I chose to have well-lit photography for all of my board covers that way it looks natural. You can go check out my Pinterest account here to see what I did.
18 | HAVE SEO FRIENDLY BOARD DESCRIPTIONS
Use key words to target the audience you want for each Pinterest board. For example, I have a board called “blog tips” so within the description of that board I have phrases such as “blogging tips, blog tips, blog help” and similar key words as well until I reach about 20. These SEO friendly board descriptions help get your boards out in front of the right people that truly want to follow you and repin your content!
19 | PIN FOR YOUR AUDIENCE, NOT FOR YOU
Now that you have a business Pinterest account, you have access to Pinterest analytics. See what your top repins are that way you can pin similar content to this. Unfortunately Pinterest is no longer pinning every cute outfit you see (unless you are a boutique or fashion blogger) you are now focusing on pinning content that applies to your niche only. If you are a boutique, you do not want to attract freelancers. You want to attract young females that are ready to pull their wallets out. Just stay focused on the content that your audience wants to see!
20 | INCLUDE A PINTEREST FOLLOW BUTTON IN BLOG POSTS
Near the end of your blog posts, just include a button that links to your Pinterest account that way people will follow! This is a simple tip but by putting your Pinterest board in front of all your lovely readers, this goes a long way! You know whoever is reading your article is interested in what you blog about so why not have them follow along through Pinterest? Just more people to pin the content you put out to your boards.
21 | FOLLOW OTHERS
Following others encourages those people to follow you. And as long as you are following people within your niche, this makes it easier to grab fresh new content to pin to your boards so you can attract more followers of your own! I always love following people that pin the same types of pins that I do because I know that one, they will more than likely follow me back since we like the same things and two, I’ll love seeing what they pin throughout my feed! Having easy access to new pins that magnetize the right type of people is the best.
22 | USE PROMOTED PINS IF YOU HAVE ACCESS
I have read quite a few success stories when it comes to Promoted Pins. Aren’t on the waiting list for promoted pins? I show you step by step how to get on it and I highly suggest you check it out. Promoted pins are pins that you pay for and Pinterest boosts it out to the right people so that it gets repinned more frequently and seen by a larger majority of people. Definitely a fantastic tool that you want to be able to have access to!
