I took a screenshot of a pin that does not have rich pins enabled and a screenshot of one of my recent pins of Hannah’s blog design with my rich pin feature enabled! See the difference? These images may not have been the best examples but I just wanted to give you a visual of these two types of pins!
Okay, now you know how important rich pins are and if I have not convinced you by the two paragraphs above then here are six ways rich pins can enhance the Pinterest experience:
1 | Professionalism
Hey, you rock. You’re a passionate professional that deserves to show it off on this social media platform. With rich pins enabled, Pinterest does all the work behind the scenes to make sure every pin that comes from your site (whether you pinned it or not) is rich!
2 | Informative
It’s a tad more enticing to pin something that has valuable information on it. You want to put all that information in your pocket and keep it forever, so your valuable pin makes itself on multiple users boards because of this. If you are a blogger, Pinterest bolds the title of your blog post as well as adds your favicon + blog name. This emphasizes the information that you are wanting to stress to the Pinterest community!
3 | Branding
Your favicon is a tiny representation of your brand and it is being displayed on tons of pins that come from your site. You’re letting your brand leak out into the world through a 16×16 image. This has so much potential! Keep that brand strong. Rich pins can help!
4 | Automatic Updating
We update our websites frequently, but thankfully the little meta data hook that is required to validate your rich pins (which I will show you in a later tutorial, no worries!) pulls out updated information so you don’t have to manually do anything! How nifty. What a time saver. And for us bloggers + biz owners saving time is gold.
5 | Higher Visibility
You were once in a crowd that looked no different from others, but now here you are, standing out among the rest of the “basic” pins. Because your pins are no longer basic, they are royalty. Go you!
6 | Credibility
I’m not sure why, but when I see a pin that includes a favicon I immediately think that this pin has credible information linked to it. Of course, this is not true in all cases. But most individuals that have rich pins enabled are serious about their business Pinterest account and I have a feeling they genuinely care about the content they put out! When you pin from their site, the favicon is now linked to the pin so those pinners are extra careful to make sure that everything coming from their site is valuable to readers.
